If you’re a patron of the arts and will be spending time in the Tel Aviv area, why not check out a contemporary dance or theatre performance at the acclaimed Suzanne Dellal Centre for Dance and Theatre, located in the posh neighborhood of Neve Tzedek, in Tel Aviv?

The Suzanne Dellal Center was originally built in 1989, and has risen to national and international levels of recognition as a top-notch facility for Israeli art and dance.  The center also holds a variety of classes for musicians, choreographers and designers in addition to courses for the general public.  The center aims to not only preserve but to support the art as well as artistic incentives, providing a stage for emergent art and artists.  The Susanne Dellal Centre is the home of the acclaimed ‘Batsheva Dance Company,’ well-known throughout Israel, and performing in venues across the globe.

Arkadi Zaides/’Land Research’

Watch five performers give five individual interpretations about the earth, using their physical body as a map.   Solos, pairs and group numbers of interesting, rag doll like movements of self expression paint a landscape of organized chaos, giving expression to their interpretation of ‘earth.’

Maria Kong Dancers Company/’Open Source’

In a review by Ora Brafman of the Jerusalem Post, she called this dance ‘one of the more sensuous dances on contemporary local dance stage.’   Come and find out why.

Maria Kong says of the performance: ‘You think you’ve seen it all.  You think that nothing can shake you, make you feel, make you move, electrify you.  Think again.’  This is truly contemporary dance at its finest.

COMPAS DANCE COMPANY/’Don Quixote’ Premiere

November 20, 9 PM

Cervantes’ acclaimed novel about Alonso Quijano, the self appointed ‘Don Quixote,’ will take the form of a dance performance put on by the Compas Dance Company.  Revered as one of the greatest literary classics of all times, come watch the self appointed knight who has taken his reading about knights and chivalry a little too seriously, believing every word of fiction to be actual truth.

Maria Kong Dancers Company, ‘Kong’s Night’

Critic Ora Brafman of the Jerusalem Post also heralded this dance performance to be, ‘one of the more sensuous dances on the contemporary local dance stage.’   Come and see for yourself if you find it to be true.

Kamea Dance Company/’Status’ by Tamir Ginz

November 28, 9:00 PM

Watch the real and virtual world collide and the separation between actual and fantasy become blurred with this mixture of modern/ballet style dance fusion, performed by a company of dancers.  The dance numbers are juxtaposed by a backdrop of images onscreen which relate to the online and virtual world.

Fresco-Yoram Karmi Dance Company/’Cerberus’ by Yoram Karmi

A dance pieces about a three-headed dog named Cerberus, this heart pounding, fast paced dance number was  called, ‘a high quality, rich performance, drama within beauty,’ by Haaretz, as well as ‘a beautiful piece, intimate and fascinating.’  Impressive dancing is juxtaposed by minimalist costuming, with intricate, metal work dog masks.
