URBAN CULINARY FESTIVAL OPEN RESTAURANTS INVITES THE PUBLIC BEHIND THE SCENES OF JERUSALEM’S UNIQUE AND DIVERSE RESTAURANTS, CAFES AND KITCHENS

November 14-18 2017

With over 80 unique culinary experiences combining food with art, culture, and innovation, the urban culinary festival “OpenRestaurants™” will return to Jerusalem for the second year running from 14-18 November 2017. The many open kitchens, private tours, food talks, art and culture bring together the rich fusion of ethnicity that multicultural Jerusalem offers, showcased at some of the city’s most exciting and celebrated restaurants and landmarks.

Highlights include:

  • A true Jerusalem feast of unity, prepared by three chefs from each of the three monotheistic religions at the YMCA;
  • “The Best Promising Chef” competition in which up and coming chefs from 6 different countries will be selected to represent their country;
  • Special guided tours in both the new city and old city of Jerusalem in English that weave the culture and traditions of food together with those of the city.
  • “Basta for a Day” competition in which the participants can win a stall for the day in the Machne Yehuda market for a chance to sell their favorite delicacies;
  • “A Feast from the Cinema” at the Lev Smadar Theater;
  • Café Kadosh celebrates 50 years with a fabulous pastry party;
  • Leading experts from Israel and abroad who will conduct culinary and cultural seminars throughout the city;
  • Included in the city’s leading participating restaurants and dining establishments are Machne Yehuda, Hamotzi, Adom, Kadosh, ANNA, Angelica, Crave, Tali Friedman’s Atelier Food Tour, Eucalyptus, and many more.

The festival will span across Jerusalem offering a distinct series of events in some of the city’s top cultural venues. Together with world-renown chefs, OpenRestaurants™ Jerusalem redefines traditional culinary experiences and challenge the norms of food and cuisine.

The OpenRestaurants™ itinerary includes a variety of exceptional and unique events designed specifically for the Festival. Beit Alliance next to the Machane Yehuda Market will host a creative photo exhibition produced by the prominent molecular chef, Alexander ‘Zoonder’ in collaboration with avant-garde food photographers, Alon and Sivan Rochiano Molco. In addition, the YMCA will host a true Jerusalem feast of unity, prepared by three chefs from each of the three monotheistic religions. In addition, the world’s largest culinary innovation company, the Milan based Seeds & Chips, will host a start-up and innovation forum featuring Israel’s best culinary innovators.

In the run-up to the opening night of Open Restaurants, an international competition entitled the “Best Promising Chef” will take place across six European countries in partnership with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The winning chefs from each destination will then represent their countries at a culinary event in Jerusalem during the OpenRestaurants™ festival.
